THERAPEUTIC EXERCISE
Therapeutic exercise involves movement prescribed to correct impairments, restore muscle and skeletal function, and maintain a state of well-being. [1]
What is therapeutic exercise?
Therapeutic exercise has many benefits for restoring function, quality of life, and overall health. Many people live with minimal physical capabilities in their daily lives, which can mean that even a short period of illness can lead to a significant decrease in function.
Exercise as a therapeutic approach involves repetitive, regular activities in various ways that increase an individual's resistance to everyday stresses. [1]
What are we dealing with?
In the vast majority of cases, the indication for therapeutic exercise is undemanding musculoskeletal disorders, but the suitability of a particular exercise depends on the individual's capacities and the limitations brought about by the condition.
Some examples of therapeutic exercise:
Deep core stabilizer training for low back pain
Exercises for mobilizing the nerves in case of compression
Scapula stabilization exercises for better shoulder function... [1] [2]
Contraindications - which conditions should not be treated?
Each case requires an individual assessment. During the first examination, we identify the dysfunction, review all available documentation, and assess the appropriateness of each exercise based on the status.
What are the effects?
Regular exercise has a long-term beneficial effect on the musculoskeletal, cardiovascular and respiratory systems. After illness or injury, therapeutic exercise improves:
Function,
Range of motion (ROM),
Balance,
Endurance and
Muscular strength [1] [2]
How is the treatment carried out?
Before starting the exercise, a physiotherapy examination is required, during which we determine the limitations in movement. Based on this, we create an individual therapeutic program. Exercises and exercise volume (time, repetitions, sets) are prescribed appropriately depending on the condition being treated. After each treatment, the client receives an individual therapeutic program in PDF format to their email address, which contains instructions for implementation, images of individual exercises and a link to an online database of videos of the prescribed exercises.
